Over 30 experts from France, Germany, Japan, and other countries, along with Chinese representatives met both in person and online in Wuhan city in central China on April 28 and 29 to discuss standardizing low voltage direct current (LVDC) distribution networks.

They also reviewed the international standard IEC TR 63282-104-1: power quality – voltage characteristics of public low-voltage DC power supply systems. Spearheaded by the State Grid Hubei Electric Power Research Institute, this standard aims to advance the standardization of power quality in LVDC distribution networks. The initiative will provide essential guidance for the global planning and design of these emerging systems.

LVDC distribution networks are emerging as a crucial element in the development of future smart power distribution and consumption systems. By enabling efficient and reliable integration of distributed renewable energy sources— such as wind and solar — along with energy storage systems, electric vehicles, and other DC-powered devices, LVDC networks play a key role in advancing energy conservation, reducing emissions, and supporting sustainable energy goals.
